As part of the ANR CIM-LIB project, the Faculty of Economics of Saint Joseph University in Beirut and EconomiX (CNRS, Paris Nanterre University) hosted the Workshop on Crises and Resilience in Developing Countries on February 22 and 23, 2024.
This international workshop created a research forum to share and discuss cutting-edge theoretical and empirical work on the multidimensional crises shaking developing countries.
Two plenary sessions with invited keynote speakers took place.
Olivier Bargain (Bordeaux School of Economics) gave a lecture entitled "Power and poverty in the home". It was followed by a discussion led by Federico Perali (University of Verona).
Paul Makdissi (University of Ottawa) gave a lecture on Lebanon’s multidimensional deprivation from 2018 to 2022, which was followed by a discussion by Jean Mercenier (Université Paris 2 Assas).
We had a total of 19 presentations of original papers.
The economist and journalist Albert Kostanian moderated a roundtable discussion addressing Lebanon's economic and social situation in the aftermath of its recent multiple crises.

Launch of the Special Issue in the Journal of Global Finance
The special issue Banking, Environmental, Digitalization, and Gender Challenges in the MENA Region aims to shed light on the MENA region's multifaceted challenges and explore potential solutions from various perspectives.
Authors are invited to submit their manuscripts for consideration in this special issue under the article type 'VSI: MENA' in the online submission system.
We welcome submissions from scholars and practitioners working in fields related to finance, economics, environmental studies, gender studies, and digitalization.
The papers presented at the workshop "Multidimensional Crises and Resilience in Developing Countries" are particularly encouraged for submission.
All submitted papers will undergo the journal's standard peer-review process to ensure high quality and rigor.
Accepted papers will be published online as soon as they are ready, ensuring rapid dissemination of research findings.
